On 17/4, Y Ginta was detained for four months by Dak Lak Provincial Police for theft of property. Authorities are consolidating the case file for Le Hong Hien, 16, who was arrested earlier.

According to the investigation, after three drinking sessions in Buon Ma Thuot ward, Y Ginta Bya and Hien decided to drive along various roads to commit theft. Around 2:30 h on 14/4, the duo discovered a 7-seater car parked in front of a house on Hung Vuong street, Tan Lap ward, with unlocked doors and the key in the ignition.
According to initial testimonies, both stole the car, intending to hide it at Y Ginta's house and then find a way to sell it for spending money. The two opened the car door, with Y Ginta directly at the wheel, even though neither had a license nor knew how to drive.

While driving on Tran Quy Cap street, Y Ginta lost control of the steering wheel, crashing into a truck parked on the right side of the road. The car continued to surge forward, mounting the median.
Immediately after the theft and accident, the two suspects abandoned the car at the scene and fled into a nearby garden. Police arrested them while they were hiding in a coconut tree.
