The service employs men who are typically shaved-headed, muscular, and heavily tattooed. Their appearance evokes the image of yakuza, members of Japan's notorious organized crime syndicates.
The company says these men help clients address everyday problems such as noisy neighbors, workplace bullying, or infidelity. Rental Kowaihito assures it does not assist in any illegal activities.

A Rental Kowaihito representative explained that the idea stemmed from the inherent fear people have of individuals with an intimidating appearance. This service introduces a new model to Japan's "rent-a-person" industry, which previously focused on hiring companions, boyfriends, or girlfriends.
The company charges 140 USD for 30 minutes and 340 USD for three hours, with clients also responsible for travel expenses for jobs outside Tokyo. They state that most cases can be resolved within 30 minutes.
The website and service gained attention on social media after a screenshot was posted by Twitter user @yukitichqn on 28/8. The post has garnered 300,000 likes and 36,000 shares.
The service has generated considerable controversy. "I think this is a useful service because human nature is to bully the weak and fear the strong," commented user Miko.
However, some have raised concerns about the legality of hiring someone to intimidate others. They also worry about the potential for escalating conflicts if both parties utilize the service.
A similar service recently drew attention in China. Women hired bodyguards for 100 USD per day to deal with abusive husbands, stalkers, or unfaithful boyfriends. However, on 31/8, the company announced it was discontinuing the service. Many speculate the company lacked the necessary operating licenses.
