On the afternoon of 24/8, 39-year-old Xiao Feng and several other tourists spotted a 12-year-old boy trapped in a narrow crevice. Raging water poured over the boy, causing him to choke and putting him at risk of drowning.
Several people attempted to rescue the boy but were unsuccessful due to the slippery rocks. "It would have taken professional rescuers at least an hour to arrive," Xiao said. The situation was critical.
With rain approaching and the water level rising, the group decided to make one final attempt. Seven men formed a human barrier upstream. Xiao clung to the rock face, leaned down, and wedged his head into the crevice, using his body to shield the boy from the full force of the current. After both were submerged for about three seconds, Xiao pulled the boy to safety, to the cheers of the onlookers.

The rescue took 20 minutes. The boy suffered only minor bruises. After the rescue, the strangers quietly left.
"We didn't know each other, nor the boy's family, but everyone volunteered to help," Xiao said.
Local officials advised tourists to prioritize safety, check weather conditions, and wear protective gear when visiting streams. They emphasized never going alone to unfamiliar bodies of water and calling for help immediately if danger arises.
