Summer's arrival means many parents are taking their children swimming. While style and comfort are important when choosing swimwear, color is crucial.
Doctor Shane Tan, founder of the Malaysian parenting platform Neucleus Education, recently shared a photo comparing the visibility of different swimsuit colors in an experiment. He warned that choosing the wrong color can make children disappear from sight the moment they enter the water.

Doctor Tan explained that the experiment compared the visibility of swimsuit colors in lake or river water (top photo) and pool water (bottom photo). The results were striking. Pink, orange, and red were easily visible in both environments. White, light blue, and gray, however, became almost invisible underwater.
Most surprising was white, highly visible on land, but practically vanishing underwater, creating an extremely dangerous situation.
Doctor Tan emphasized that visibility is already reduced in natural water environments, making the right swimsuit color potentially lifesaving in an emergency. He recommended bright red, pink, yellow, and neon orange for children's swimwear.

Beyond color, Doctor Tan also reminded parents of three water safety principles: Avoid unfamiliar swimming areas, refrain from using phones while supervising children, and ensure young children wear life jackets.
"Water safety is never 100%, but we can minimize risks by following these safety rules," he said.
