ACV chairman Vu The Phiet expelled from party

Vu The Phiet, party committee secretary and chairman of the board of directors of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), expelled from party by secretariat for serious violations.

During a meeting on 12/5, the Secretariat also expelled Le Van Ha, former party committee secretary and chairman of Le Ho ward People's Council in Ninh Binh province.

The Secretariat concluded that both Vu The Phiet and Le Van Ha exhibited political ideological, moral, and lifestyle degradation. They violated party regulations and state law while performing their assigned duties. Their infractions also involved corruption prevention, waste, and negative practices, along with breaching rules on what party members are forbidden to do and their responsibility to lead by example.

These violations led to serious consequences, sparking public outrage and severely damaging the reputation of party organizations, local authorities, and their respective agencies.

The Secretariat requested relevant agencies to promptly implement administrative disciplinary measures, consistent with the party's sanctions.

Earlier, on 8/4, the Central Inspection Committee had expelled Lai Xuan Thanh, former party committee secretary and chairman of the board of directors, along with Nguyen Tien Viet, deputy party committee secretary and acting deputy general director of Airports Corporation of Vietnam. At that time, Vu The Phiet was recommended for disciplinary review by competent authorities.

On 5/3, ACV issued an unusual disclosure, stating that chairman of the board of directors Vu The Phiet had been temporarily detained by the Ministry of Public Security. He is under investigation for violating bidding regulations, causing serious consequences, and accepting money to facilitate contractors in winning bids. Also arrested was Nguyen Tien Viet, a board member, deputy general director overseeing ACV's executive board, and director of the Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board.

Vu The Phiet, 53, holds a master's degree in business administration and has been involved in the aviation sector since 1995. His previous roles include director of Noi Bai International Airport, deputy general director, and general director of ACV from 8/2018. He assumed the position of chairman of the board of directors and party committee secretary of ACV in 9/2024.

ACV boasts a charter capital exceeding 35,828 billion VND, with the Ministry of Finance holding a 95,41% stake representing state capital. Its shares have traded on UPCoM since 11/2016, currently standing at around 56,000 VND, reflecting a 15% increase since the year's start. The company manages and operates 23 airports, including 11 international facilities. It is also the investor for the Long Thanh International Airport project, an undertaking with a total investment of approximately 336,630 billion VND and spanning about 5,000 ha. Phase one of this project encompasses two runways and a terminal designed for 25 million passengers; several components are complete and commercial operations are anticipated to begin mid-year.
