Rain and floods besiege many communes and villages in northern mountainous region

Over 100 mm of rain fell across many northern mountainous provinces from the night of 30/6 to the morning of 1/7, causing severe flooding, landslides, and traffic disruption, with Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang experiencing the heaviest impact.

From midnight on 30/6 to the morning of 1/7, authorities in Can Yen commune, Cao Bang, continuously received distress calls as floodwaters rapidly rose due to heavy rain. Rescue forces worked through the night to evacuate residents from flooded areas.

Floodwaters inundated many residential areas in Phieng Pan, Ta Cap, Na Pang, Ngoc Sy, and Rac Ruc villages, Can Yen commune, leaving 41 households submerged under 0,5 to 2 m of water.

Can Yen commune authorities assisted residents in evacuating belongings and assets to safe locations overnight.

A parent from Ngoc Sy village, Can Yen commune, picked up their children from work and brought them home by raft.

By the morning of 1/7, Cao Bang reported over 200 submerged homes, extensive road damage, and initial losses estimated at around 17 billion VND. Communes are continuing to assess and address the aftermath.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, northern mountainous and midland regions, Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong are expected to receive 30-70 mm of rain, with some areas exceeding 150 mm, throughout 1/7. This poses a risk of flash floods, landslides, and inundation in low-lying areas and along rivers and streams.

Similarly, rising floodwaters in Thong Nong commune, Cao Bang province, submerged many residential areas and roads. The commune reported 45 homes underwater, with many households forced to move their belongings to safety overnight.

Across Cao Bang province, over 382 hectares of rice, corn, and other crops were flooded.

Heavy rain from the night of 30/6 to the early morning of 1/7 caused widespread landslides and flooding in Tuyen Quang. The province reported 63 affected homes, approximately 80 traffic landslide sites, 21 households requiring emergency evacuation, and initial damages estimated at around 17 billion VND.
