During its 12/5 meeting, the Secretariat considered the Central Inspection Committee's proposal and concluded that Nguyen Van Buong had degenerated in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle. He violated Party regulations and state laws in fulfilling his assigned duties, in anti-corruption, anti-waste, and anti-negativity efforts. He also breached regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do and failed in his responsibility to set an example.
Buong's violations "caused serious consequences, public outrage, and significantly damaged the reputation of the Party organization, local government, and his workplace."
Therefore, the Secretariat decided to expel Nguyen Van Buong from the Party and requested competent authorities to promptly implement administrative disciplinary action, concurrent with the Party's discipline.

In mid-January, the Supreme People's Procuracy Investigation Agency initiated legal proceedings and detained Buong on bribery charges. His arrest occurred during phase 2 of a bribery and bribe brokering case at the Da Nang High People's Court, which is now known as the Da Nang Supreme People's Court Appellate Court.
Buong, 60 years old, previously served as Deputy Chief Justice of the Da Nang High People's Court and Chief Justice of the former Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Court.
In phase 1 of the case, on 24/12/2025, the Hanoi City People's Court sentenced Pham Tan Hoang and Pham Viet Cuong, two former Deputy Chief Justices of the Da Nang High People's Court, to 3 and 7 years in prison, respectively. They were found guilty of accepting money to issue biased judgments in 7 cases.
Among the 28 individuals tried in this case were: 10 former judges and provincial court leaders; 3 former prosecutors and procuracy staff; two former enforcement officers and officials from the Civil Judgment Enforcement Agency; 4 lawyers and law firm staff; and 9 defendants who were litigants in the cases.
