The expressway, which opened on 19/1, still has several items under construction, including energy dissipation ditches, slope reinforcement, and cement concrete shoulders. The investor stated that continuing construction while the expressway is operational poses safety risks for both vehicles and workers on the site.
Additionally, the need to divert traffic means many construction tasks can only be performed during the day, extending the completion timeline.
During the temporary closure, vehicles traveling from Can Tho to Ca Mau can use the Can Tho – Hau Giang expressway to the IC5 interchange, then exit onto national highway 61 or follow the Quan Lo – Phung Hiep route and national highway 1.

The Hau Giang – Ca Mau expressway spans 37 km and is part of the 111 km Can Tho – Ca Mau expressway project, with a total investment exceeding 27,500 billion dong. This route is designed to shorten travel times, reduce logistics costs, and enhance transport connectivity for the Mekong Delta region.
Previously, some sections of the approach roads at both ends of the bridges on the route experienced subsidence, requiring vehicles to reduce speed when passing.
