Initial information from Infantry Regiment 568 (Hung Yen Provincial Military Command) indicates that at approximately 9:40 a.m. on 12/9, Major Tran Van Tung, 39, commander of Battalion 3, Infantry Regiment 568, was returning to his unit by motorbike after completing a mission. While on Bo bridge, which spans the Tra Ly river between Tra Ly ward and Thai Binh ward, he observed a 30-year-old man from Dong Hung commune struggling with his mother.

The mother stated her son intended to jump from the bridge.

Seeing the situation, Tung and Tien, a passerby, quickly approached and persistently tried to persuade and encourage the young man. After some discussion, the man agreed to abandon his intention and asked the military officer to take him home.

However, at approximately 9:45 a.m., while Tung was retrieving his motorbike, the young man unexpectedly plunged into the Tra Ly river. Major Tung immediately jumped into the water to save him.

After Tung jumped into the river and swam to reach the man, both were swept away by the strong current.

Upon receiving the report, the Hung Yen Provincial Military Command, Infantry Regiment 568, along with representatives from relevant units and local authorities, promptly arrived at the scene. They directed rescue efforts, secured the area, and gathered information.

Authorities are currently coordinating with Water Rescue Team 116, mobilizing resources and personnel to search for Tung and the young man in the Tra Ly river.
