Speaking at a press conference on the afternoon of 11/9, Nguyen Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of the Employment Department, Ministry of Interior, announced that the ministry had submitted its proposal for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday to the government.

The proposal suggests that civil servants and public employees will observe the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday for five mandated days: two days before Tet and three days after. These will be combined with two weekend days, extending the total holiday to 7 consecutive days. The proposed period is from the 28th day of the 12th lunar month of the Binh Ngo year (4/2/2027) until the end of the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Dinh Mui year (10/2/2027).

Civil servants and public employees are expected to return to work on the 6th day of Tet (11/2/2027).

According to Ms. Quyen, the proposed plan was developed based on current regulations and input from various ministries and agencies. This 7-day break would provide individuals working away from home ample time to prepare and travel back to their hometowns for Tet celebrations.

Following the holiday schedule for civil servants and public employees, businesses are expected to proactively arrange Tet holiday schedules for their workers in accordance with labor regulations.

Earlier, in early August, the Ministry of Interior had sought feedback from various ministries and agencies on two potential Dinh Mui Tet holiday options, one of which proposed a total holiday period of 10 days.

For National Day 2027, the Ministry of Interior also proposed a 4-day holiday for civil servants and public employees. This would combine the two mandated days off on 2/9 and 3/9 with the two weekend days, resulting in a break from thursday, 2/9, until the end of sunday, 5/9.

Vietnam currently observes 12 paid public holidays annually. These include one day for New Year's Day, five days for Lunar New Year, one day for Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, one day for 30/4 (Reunification Day), one day for International Labor Day, two days for National Day, and one day for Vietnamese Culture Day.
