Minister Do Duc Duy reprimanded

Minister of agriculture and environment Do Duc Duy has been reprimanded by the politburo for violations causing serious consequences.

At a meeting on 17/7, after reviewing a proposal from the central inspection committee, the politburo found that Mr. Do Duc Duy, member of the central committee of the communist party, member of the party committee of the government, secretary of the party committee, and minister of agriculture and environment, had violated party regulations and state laws during his tenure as deputy secretary of the Yen Bai provincial party committee, secretary of the standing board of the provincial party committee, and chairman of the Yen Bai provincial people's committee.

Mr. Duy also violated the principles of democratic centralism and working regulations, as well as regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example. This caused serious consequences, negative public opinion, and diminished the prestige of the party organization and the agency where he worked.

Therefore, based on the content, nature, extent, consequences, and causes of the violations, the politburo decided to reprimand Mr. Do Duc Duy.

Mr. Duy received this disciplinary action just 5 months after assuming the position of minister of agriculture and environment.

Mr. Do Duc Duy, 55, is from Thai Binh province (now Hung Yen province) and holds a master's degree in construction. He worked as a structural engineer and lecturer at Hanoi architectural university. He then moved to the ministry of construction, working as a specialist, deputy head of the department of organization and personnel, chief of office of the ministry, and deputy minister of construction from 2015 to 2017.

In 2017, he became chairman of the Yen Bai provincial people's committee and then served as secretary of the Yen Bai provincial party committee from 2020. In 8/2024, Mr. Duy was approved by the national assembly to be appointed as minister of natural resources and environment. Six months later, he assumed the new position of minister of agriculture and environment, following the merger of the ministry of natural resources and environment with the ministry of agriculture and rural development.
