Around 9 PM on 21/8, two men without helmets were speeding and weaving recklessly on Nghi Tam street, Tay Ho ward. The street was closed for the first rehearsal of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (A80).

Several police officers signaled the men to stop, but they continued at high speed. At the intersection of Hong Ha and Tay Ho wards, they collided with a traffic police officer.

The officer fell to the ground, unconscious. The two men also fell and were immediately apprehended.

The Hanoi police department reported that the officer was taken to the 108 Military Central Hospital. After examination, he was found to have a broken wrist, fractured frontal bone, and traumatic brain injury, requiring intensive care.

The two men on the motorcycle are in custody.
