In a dispatch sent to the Department of Construction on 2/2, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture stated that Khang Dien House Investment and Business Joint Stock Company, the project's sponsor, has been renovating seven roads, intersections, and public works across the city. However, some unique and iconic areas, such as Ben Thanh Market square, Ho Con Rua, and Nga 6 Phu Dong, have not received adequate attention, affecting the appearance of the central area.
Based on observations and community feedback, the department noted that several items and implementation methods are sparking debate regarding aesthetics, landscape harmony, and color.

The Department of Planning and Architecture also indicated that for the two areas of Ben Thanh Market square and Ho Con Rua roundabout, the initial plan differed from the actual construction in terms of color and scope. It is unclear whether this adjustment was reviewed and approved by competent authorities before implementation. According to the department, the change in color directly impacts the landscape and surrounding architectural structures.
Therefore, the Department of Planning and Architecture has asked the Department of Construction, as the lead agency, to temporarily halt renovations in the two aforementioned areas. The sponsor also needs to provide the current construction plan and explain the differences compared to the approved plan. Concurrently, the department has requested a meeting to gather feedback from relevant departments and professional associations, such as: architects, urban planners, fine arts experts, and urban landscape architects. From there, Khang Dien will finalize the renovation plan and report it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and decision.
Previously in January, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved renovations in seven central areas of the city to create a new look for the Tet Binh Ngo 2026 celebration. These areas include: Ben Thanh Market square, Ho Con Rua, Nga 6 Phu Dong, and Nguyen Hue, Dong Khoi, Ham Nghi, Hai Ba Trung streets.
The work was expected to be completed by 10/2, funded by socialized capital sponsored by Khang Dien. The city's Department of Construction is the lead agency, coordinating with various departments, sectors, and local authorities for implementation. However, after two weeks of construction, the colors in the Ben Thanh Market and Ho Con Rua roundabout areas have sparked various opinions regarding their aesthetics and landscape.

The structure has a total area of about 13,000 square meters, bordered by Phan Boi Chau - Phan Chu Trinh - Le Thanh Ton - Cong Truong Quach Thi Trang streets. It is currently a city-level relic and one of Ho Chi Minh City's iconic landmarks, attracting many residents and tourists daily.
The Ho Con Rua area, also known as Cong Truong Quoc Te, is an intersection of Pham Ngoc Thach, Tran Cao Van, and Vo Van Tan streets. Surrounded by numerous restaurants, bars, and cafes, it is a popular spot for residents and tourists seeking entertainment.
