Six officers from the Khanh Hoa Police Department of Fire Prevention and Rescue, in coordination with local police and experienced climbers, searched for the hikers. Close to 1 a.m., they located the pair near a dry stream bed, about 3 km from the base of the mountain.

According to Anh Dung, a member of the rescue team, the hikers were off the beaten path in an area rarely traversed. The darkness and their fatigue contributed to their disorientation and distress.

Co Tien mountain, approximately 400 m high, has three adjacent peaks and is a popular spot for camping and enjoying views of the coastal city. Experienced climbers advise first-time visitors to ascend with seasoned hikers, prepare physically, understand the terrain, and avoid climbing at night to prevent incidents.
