Around 8:30 h, an accident occurred inside Deo But tunnel involving a 5-seat car with Ha Tinh license plates, a truck, and a tractor-trailer with TP HCM license plates, all traveling northbound in the same direction. In addition to two injured individuals, the 5-seat car and the truck sustained severe front-end damage, while the tractor-trailer had damage to its rear.

Deo But tunnel blocked two lanes and remained blocked until around 11:30 h. Highway Traffic Police Team No. 4 (Traffic Police Department) coordinated with inter-agency forces to reroute traffic in both directions on the expressway at the National Highway 12C intersection (Ha Tinh) and the Tien Chau - Van Hoa intersection (Quang Tri).
According to the management unit, at the time of the accident, the road surface was smooth, and traffic safety systems were fully operational.
Deo But tunnel is nearly one kilometer long, passing through Dong Nang mountain, with its northern section in Ky Lac commune and its southern section in Ky Hoa commune. The structure is designed for permanence, with a reinforced concrete shell, featuring two separate tunnels, each 15 m wide and 8 m high.
The Vung Ang - Bung expressway is over 55 km long, spanning Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces, with a total investment of over 12,500 billion VND. Construction began in early 2023, and the entire route opened on 28/8/2023. Phase one features four lanes, a roadbed 17 m wide, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h.
