Around 1h, a truck with a Phu Tho license plate, traveling from Bac Yen towards Mai Son, veered off the road upon reaching Cao Da 1 village in Bac Yen commune. It struck a soft barrier on the left side of the road before plunging into a deep ravine.

There were three people in the vehicle: one aged 50 and one aged 19, both residing in Te Lo commune, Phu Tho province, and one individual whose identity remains unknown. Two victims died at the scene, while one was ejected from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, where they later died, according to the Son La Provincial Police.

Leaders of the Son La Provincial Police arrived at the scene. They directed traffic police, fire and rescue police, and local police to organize rescue efforts, transport victims for emergency care, and manage traffic.

At the scene, the truck lay completely deformed in a local's field, approximately 100 meters from the road surface.

According to the Son La Provincial Police, the preliminary cause was the driver failing to stay in the correct lane and losing control of the steering wheel, which led to the collision with the barrier and the subsequent plunge into the ravine.
