Coach De Zerbi does not believe Tottenham will be relegated

Coach Roberto De Zerbi believes Tottenham is capable of earning all 15 points in the final stage to escape the Premier League relegation zone.

"I always believe in the quality of the players. This is a time for the right spirit and attitude. The season is not over; we still have five matches and 15 points to compete for", De Zerbi said after the 2-2 draw against Brighton in round 33 of the Premier League.

At home on 18/4, Tottenham took the lead two times through Pedro Porro and Xavi Simons. However, Tottenham allowed Brighton to equalize in stoppage time of each half, extending their winless streak in 2026 to 15 matches (6 draws, 9 losses). This is the second-worst run in the club's history, only surpassed by a 16-match winless streak from December 1934 to April 1935.

Tottenham remains 18th with 31 points, facing the risk of relegation rivals widening the gap. In later matches, West Ham (17th with 32 points) will visit Crystal Palace, while Nottingham Forest (16th with 33 points) will face Burnley.

Tottenham faces a difficult schedule, with five matches remaining against Wolves, Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton. But De Zerbi believes Tottenham is capable of achieving a five-match winning streak to avoid relegation. "It might be hard to believe right now, but looking at the squad's capability, I think we can do it. It's not arrogance, but we have enough quality to fight and win consecutively", he said.

Tottenham's last victory was a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on 28/12/2025, when Thomas Frank was still in charge. Under De Zerbi, Tottenham has not yet won, but there are signs of improved gameplay, as seen in the loss to Sunderland and the draw against Brighton.

"I think Tottenham deserved to win. I am very proud of the players because they gave their all, with the right spirit and personality", De Zerbi expressed. "I am only disappointed with the result, for the players and the fans. The atmosphere today was fantastic, even with the team in a very difficult situation".

In the next round on 25/4, Tottenham will face bottom-ranked club Wolves. De Zerbi emphasized this is a must-win match and demanded his players maintain a positive attitude. "I have no time for negativity. Anyone who comes to training with the wrong attitude will have to leave immediately", the Italy coach stated. "We are fortunate to work at a big club, in a big league. Therefore, the entire team must think positively and focus on winning".
