Coach Rosenior no longer defends Chelsea players

Coach Liam Rosenior has stopped defending and publicly criticized the attitude and fighting spirit of Chelsea players following their 0-3 defeat to Brighton in Premier League round 34.

"That was an unacceptable performance in every aspect. I am deeply pained and almost numb", Rosenior said after the match at The Amex on the evening of 21/4. "Their attitude was unacceptable. I always defend my players, but what happened tonight cannot be excused".

The English manager expressed particular disappointment with how his team conceded goals, lost challenges, and lacked intensity. "Something needs to change drastically, right now", he emphasized. "I take responsibility, but the players also need to look in the mirror. Tactics only matter when the basics are guaranteed".

In this match, Chelsea played disjointedly, managing only 6 shots, all off target. Their defense was lax, allowing Brighton to score three times from efforts by Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood, and Danny Welbeck.

This marks the first time in 114 years, since november 1912, that Chelsea has lost five consecutive English top-flight matches without scoring. Previously, they suffered defeats to Man Utd (0-1), Man City (0-3), Everton (0-3), and Newcastle (0-1).

Over the last 9 Premier League rounds, Chelsea has secured only 5 points, the second-worst record in the league, ahead of only Tottenham (2 points). This decline in form has seen the London club drop to 7th place with 48 points, 7 points adrift of a Champions League spot with four rounds remaining in the season.

"This is one of the most difficult nights of my career, because what I witnessed today is something I never want to see again", Rosenior commented.

When asked about support from the dressing room, the 41-year-old coach stated: "The players are not playing for me, but for the club, for the shirt, for victory. You can judge for yourselves whether they are still playing for me, but this performance is alarming".

Throughout the match, many Chelsea fans reacted strongly, some even calling for Rosenior's resignation. The English manager acknowledged: "I understand the fans' frustration. The responsibility lies with me. But I also need to review our approach to the match, personnel, and the players I can trust during this difficult time".

Chelsea's next match is against Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on 26/4. Rosenior affirmed he will select players who meet football's basic requirements. "Chelsea must represent fighting spirit, will, and determination. That was absent today, and it must change starting with the FA Cup semi-final", he said.
