Haaland creates a stir at upscale American golf club

The arrival of striker Erling Haaland and two fellow Norwegian national team players brought an unusual buzz to one of North Carolina's most prestigious golf clubs.

Eric Ferguson, director of Sedgefield Country Club, one of North Carolina's oldest and most prestigious golf courses, remarked he "had never witnessed such a famous yet approachable group of athletes", describing them as "very friendly and sincere individuals".

In addition to Haaland, two other Norwegian national team players, striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and midfielder Sander Berge, also enjoyed the experience at the prestigious course.

According to Ferguson, the golf outing was arranged through Nike, Haaland's sponsoring partner. Initially, representatives sought to book for about 12 members of the Norwegian national team. However, due to capacity limitations, the club could only accommodate three individuals.

Sedgefield Country Club is one of America's iconic golf courses, having hosted numerous PGA Tour events. It was also the site of notable milestones, including an impressive performance by Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland in 2019 when he was just 21 years old.

Beyond impressing professionals, Haaland also made a strong impression on those present at the course. Coaching staff member Cameron Little noted that many spectators were surprised by the football star's friendliness. "Usually, big stars are quite distant, but he was very amiable, willing to take photos, and expressed gratitude for the experience here", Little said.

The moment Haaland successfully made a putt drew applause from spectators, and he responded with his familiar celebration, creating an exciting atmosphere on the course.

According to club staff, after finishing their round, the Norwegian players moved on to another activity. Their presence prompted many members to message management, inquiring about opportunities to meet them. "We didn't truly realize their level of fame until the phones started ringing continuously", Ferguson shared.

Haaland is enjoying a rare break before Norway's World Cup 2026 opening match against Iraq on 16/6. Subsequently, Norway will face Senegal on 22/6 and France on 26/6.

In addition to Haaland, the Norwegian national team boasts many stars playing in Europe's top five national leagues, including: Alexander Sorloth (Atletico Madrid), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal), Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig), Oscar Bob (Fulham), Kristoffer Ajer (Brentford), and Orjan Haskjold Nyland (Sevilla).

Norway's last major tournament appearance was Euro 2000. On the World Cup stage, they only participated in 1994 and 1998. The World Cup 2026 will mark the first major tournament for the current generation of players.
