Kevin Ociepka, a German Hyrox athlete and physical therapist, has set a new world record for completing a marathon distance using only burpee broad jumps. He finished the 42 km challenge on 8/9 in 155 hours 44 minutes 51 seconds, nearly 42 hours faster than the previous record of 197 hours held by Mann Sharma of India.
Ociepka performed approximately 30,000 burpee broad jumps, with each jump advancing him about 1,4 meters. He completed 108 laps of the field to cover the 42 km distance.
The six-day challenge began on 2/9 at Parkstadion Baunatal in Baunatal, Hessen, Germany. Ociepka undertook this demanding feat to encourage physical activity and raise funds for Kinder Krebs Stiftung, a charity supporting children with cancer.
Despite its "marathon" designation, the event involved no running. Participants could only advance by performing a combination of broad jumps and burpees, with the broad jumps providing forward motion and the burpees elevating the heart rate, intensifying the challenge.
Strict rules governed the movements. For each burpee, the athlete's hips and chest had to touch the ground. They then pushed up, either jumping or stepping their feet forward, until standing upright. During the broad jump, both feet had to leave the ground simultaneously, and the landing could not be staggered.

Comments on Ociepka's Instagram post frequently echoed the sentiment: "Why would anyone want to try this?" However, for Ociepka, this type of challenge is familiar. A professional Hyrox athlete, he has competed in 17 Hyrox events and is particularly adept at the fourth exercise station, a segment often disliked by many competitors.
Hyrox is a global fitness competition that combines running with functional strength exercises. Each event typically features 8 one-kilometer runs, interspersed with 8 exercise stations, such as: sled push/pull, farmers carry, rowing machine, and burpee broad jump.
Ociepka consistently ranks among the top performers in the burpee broad jump segment of Hyrox, often completing it in under three minutes. This contrasts with most participants, who average about 5-6 minutes for the same section.
The Hyrox burpee broad jump station requires athletes to complete a total of 80 meters of burpee broad jumps midway through the race. Competition rules are strict, with penalties for actions such as placing hands too far from feet when stepping up, stepping instead of performing the correct jumping motion, landing in a staggered position, or failing to touch the chest to the floor.
