Hanoi FC aims to end title drought

Hanoi FC sets a goal to win at least one title in the 2026-2027 season, following four consecutive seasons without silverware.

Hanoi FC boasts an impressive record, including 6 V-League championships, 3 National Cups, and 5 National Super Cups. However, their last trophies came in the 2022 season, when they secured both the V-League and National Cup titles. The team has since endured four consecutive seasons without a championship. The 2025-2026 season was particularly challenging for Hanoi FC, as they were eliminated in the National Cup qualifiers and, for the first time in 17 years, finished outside the top 3 in the V-League.

At the squad launch ceremony for the 2026-2027 season on the afternoon of 28/8, Hanoi FC expressed a strong determination to bounce back. Chairman Do Vinh Quang stated, "Hanoi wants to win a lot. Winning a lot will lead to championships. The team aspires to improve its performance and secure at least one title after many years."

The capital city club will compete in two major tournaments: the National Cup and the V-League. The championship races in both competitions are expected to be fierce, with several teams demonstrating strong quality or significant spending in the transfer market. Key rivals include reigning V-League champions Cong an Ha Noi, current National Cup holders Cong an TP HCM, along with Ninh Binh and Nam Dinh.

In preparation for the new season, Hanoi FC undertook a training camp in Thailand. Coach Harry Kewell has also reshaped the squad, notably parting ways with striker Pham Tuan Hai, who transferred to Nam Dinh. The team welcomed back former midfielder Pham Duc Huy and recruited winger Bui Ngoc Long, full-back Mai Sy Hoang, 1,9 m tall French striker Andrew Jung, and Israeli central midfielder Yuval Sade.

Hanoi FC also acquired French-Vietnamese striker Aymeric Faurand-Tournaire. Born in 2004, the player developed through French football academies and previously made 15 appearances in Ligue 2, equivalent to Vietnam's first division, for CLB Laval. In the middle of the 2025-2026 season, he was loaned to VFC La Roche, where he scored 3 goals in 12 matches in the French fifth division before joining Hanoi FC.

Coach Harry Kewell is also aiming for a balanced squad, combining experience with youth. Veteran players like Nguyen Van Quyet, Do Hung Dung, and Do Duy Manh will mentor younger talents such as Dau Hong Phong, Nguyen Anh Tiep, Pham Dinh Hai, and Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc. Additionally, the Australian coach expects national team members who recently helped Vietnam win the ASEAN Cup 2026—Pham Xuan Manh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Do Hoang Hen, and Nguyen Hai Long—to continue demonstrating their prowess and inspiring the team.

Captain Nguyen Van Quyet remarked, "Many Hanoi FC players contributed to Vietnam's championship victory. Confidence is high. I hope the younger players will fight with all their might, helping the team gain morale to achieve the best results."

During the launch ceremony, Hanoi FC also announced a three-year partnership with renowned global sports brand adidas. The club views this collaboration as a step forward in raising its professional standards through branding, match kits, training apparel, and overall brand development.

Hanoi will visit Cong an TP HCM for their opening V-League 2026-2027 match at Binh Duong Stadium on 5/9.
