Vietnamese pickleball stars compete for a 1.1 million USD prize pool

Truong Vinh Hien, Sophia Huynh, Sophia Phuong Anh, Ho Thi Truc Tam, and other Vietnamese representatives will compete at the PPA Tour Asia 1500 Hong Kong Slam 2026, broadcast live and exclusively on FPT Play.

The Hong Kong Slam 2026, taking place from 19/10 to 25/10 at Kai Tak Arena, a 10,000-seat stadium within the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, marks the first PPA Tour Asia event to reach the 1500 level. This tournament also concludes the 2026 professional pickleball season.

The event features a total prize fund of 1,1 million USD, a record high for professional pickleball in Asia. Athletes will also compete for 1,500 World Pickleball Ranking points and the season's final title, setting the stage for a compelling race among top international players.

Truong Vinh Hien is a notable Vietnamese representative at this year's tournament. After missing the Kuala Lumpur Cup due to health issues, he returns to competition following his participation in the PPA Las Vegas Open 1000 in the US. Hien Vinh is expected to compete in three events: men's singles, men's doubles with Do Minh Quan, and mixed doubles.

Also recently returned from the US, Sophia Huynh will compete in three events, notably partnering with Ho Thi Truc Tam in women's doubles. Meanwhile, Sophia Phuong Anh will team up with young Japanese player Mayu Ito in this event, also competing in women's singles and mixed doubles with Wil Shaffer. In women's singles, Ho Thi Truc Tam aims to win a title after not achieving expected results at the Macao Open.

Additionally, the tournament features other Vietnamese players such as Ngo Hai Dang, Hoang Samurai, Dat "Tro", Le Xuan Duc, and Andrew Anh Pham, further expanding Vietnam's presence in the international pickleball arena.

Global stars set to clash

The Hong Kong Slam 2026 also draws significant interest with its lineup of top international athletes. In men's singles, Christopher Haworth, who is aiming for a championship title and a spot in the world's top 10, will compete against prominent names such as Federico Staksrud, Hunter Johnson, Christian Alshon, Tama Shimabukuro, and Hong Kit Wong. For the women, familiar faces like Kaitlyn Christian, Chao Yi Wang, Sahra Dennehy, and Yufei Long will bring fierce competition.

In men's doubles, current world number one Ben Johns will partner with Gabriel Tardio, while Federico Staksrud will team up with Hayden Patriquin. The mixed doubles event features the "power couple" of Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters, the current world number one female player, competing against other renowned pairings such as Anna Bright/Hayden Patriquin and the Johnson siblings, Jorja and JR. Women's doubles highlights the duo of Anna Bright and Anna Leigh Waters, two players who have garnered significant interest among pickleball fans in Vietnam.

With the participation of many world-class players and the heightened stakes of the season's final leg, the tournament is expected to deliver not only high professional quality but also many dramatic and explosive matches.

Vietnamese fans can follow the PPA Tour Asia 1500 Hong Kong Slam 2026 matches live on FPT Play from 20/10 to 25/10, supporting Vietnamese players in their quest to conquer the international professional pickleball arena.
