Harry Kane wins European Golden Boot for the second time

Striker Harry Kane claimed the European Golden Boot for the 2025-2026 season, scoring 36 goals for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Harry Kane secured the European Golden Boot for the 2025-2026 season, scoring 36 goals in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich and accumulating 72 points, Bayern announced on 26/5. Goals in Europe's five top leagues are weighted with a two-point multiplier, which helped the English striker widen his lead over other contenders.

Erling Haaland of Man City finished second with 27 goals and 54 points. Kylian Mbappe, who scored 25 goals for Real Madrid, placed third with 50 points. Haaland previously won the Golden Boot in 2023, while Mbappe claimed the award last year.

Kane's victories in 2024 and 2026 make him the first English player to win the European Golden Boot more than once. Before Kane, Kevin Phillips was the only other English player to achieve a similar feat, scoring 30 goals in the Premier League during the 1999-2000 season.

The 2025-2026 season proved to be a career highlight for Kane. Beyond his 36 Bundesliga goals, the England captain netted a total of 61 goals in 51 matches across all competitions. This performance helped Bayern secure a domestic double, winning both the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Kane's impact was particularly evident in the German Cup final on 23/5, where the 32-year-old striker scored a hat-trick to secure Bayern's triumph. Following the match, a Stuttgart player praised Kane's goal-scoring instinct and two-footed finishing ability. "You cannot give him even a small space", the player stated.

Kane faced skepticism when he departed Tottenham for Germany in 2023. At that point, he had not won any collective titles in his career, despite being a leading Premier League striker for several seasons.

However, three seasons at Bayern have transformed Kane's image. He has scored 146 goals in 147 matches for the German club, maintaining a nearly one-goal-per-game ratio. Notably, in both of his European Golden Boot winning seasons, Kane concluded the Bundesliga campaign with 36 goals.

At 32, Kane maintains remarkable consistency. Following the award ceremony, he described it as the best season of his career. The English forward also hinted at a potential contract extension with Bayern, despite his current deal running until 2027. "Right now, I want to make the most of my current contract. This will be one of my final contracts as a player", Kane said.

The European Golden Boot, first awarded in the 1967-1968 season, was initially managed by UEFA. Since 1997, European Sports Media has organized the award. It recognizes the top goal scorer in European national leagues, with points calculated based on each league's strength coefficient.
