Entering the match, Manchester City were without their key striker Erling Haaland due to an ankle injury. This absence not only created a personnel void but also noticeably impacted the visitors' attacking prowess, as they consistently struggled against Leeds' energetic and aggressive pressing style.
In the first half, Leeds launched eight shots before Manchester City registered their first attempt. The home side also had 10 touches in the opposition's penalty area before Pep Guardiola's squad achieved the same. These statistics reflected Leeds' dominance during the initial 45 minutes, with the home crowd ignited by every challenge.

Leeds achieved an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.24, the highest Manchester City has conceded in the first 45 minutes of a Premier League match this season. However, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Brenden Aaronson squandered clear opportunities. Calvert-Lewin notably headed wide in the third minute following a precise cross from Aaronson.
Approximately 10 minutes before halftime, the momentum shifted as Leeds' physical conditioning began to wane. Manchester City gradually overcame the pressure and started to launch counter-attacks. Omar Marmoush and Nico O'Reilly saw their chances denied within a minute, signaling a change in fortunes towards the visitors.
The turning point arrived in injury time. Rayan Ait-Nouri broke free on the left wing from a clever through ball by Rayan Cherki before delivering a low cross for Antoine Semenyo to stretch and tap the ball past goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Since his Premier League debut for Manchester City on 17/1, Semenyo has contributed to five goals, scoring four and assisting one. Only Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, both involved in six goals, have bettered this record in the league during the same period. This statistic partly explains why Manchester City was willing to spend 88 million USD to sign the Ghanaian forward from Bournemouth.

In the second half, Manchester City displayed their characteristic pragmatism. They maintained 56.3% possession, stifling Leeds' playing space and restricting them to just six shots with a mere 0.2 xG.
In the final 10 minutes, the home side pressed with full force, utilizing Ethan Ampadu's long throw-ins to deliver the ball into the penalty area, creating suffocating pressure. However, Manchester City demonstrated their champion's resolve in the closing stages. Guardiola's team stood firm against the onslaught, controlled the tempo, and preserved their slender advantage amidst nail-biting suspense until the final whistle.
The 1-0 result extended Manchester City's winning streak to six matches across all competitions, including four in the Premier League. This marks their longest winning run in the league since the period from 29/11/2025 to 27/12/2025, which also saw six victories. This milestone indicates that the sky blue squad is accelerating at the right time, with the resilience and pragmatism that have become their trademark.
Crucially, yesterday's victory at Elland Road allowed Manchester City to cut Arsenal's lead to two points, with both teams having played 28 matches. Guardiola's men exerted significant pressure ahead of Arsenal's clash with Chelsea today.
Even if Arsenal win the North London derby to re-establish a five-point lead, Manchester City still holds their destiny in the title race. With the two teams set to face each other directly at the Etihad Stadium on 18/4, Manchester City would secure the championship if they win all their remaining 10 matches.
