Enzo Maresca has made history, becoming the first manager in Premier League history to win his opening seven matches in charge of a club. This achievement came after Manchester City's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town in round seven. Under Maresca's leadership, Man City secured consecutive victories against Bournemouth (2-1), Crystal Palace (4-1), Coventry City (1-0), Man Utd (1-0), Sunderland (5-3), Liverpool (3-0), and Ipswich (3-2) in the first seven rounds of the Premier League. This impressive run saw Maresca break the record previously held by Pep Guardiola (Man City), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea), and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Man Utd), all of whom won their first six matches when leading a club in the league.
While Chelsea, with nine wins in the 2005-2006 season, and Liverpool, with eight wins in the 2019-2020 season, had longer opening team winning streaks in Premier League history, Maresca is the first manager to win all seven initial matches since taking over a club in the competition. Within Manchester City's own history, Guardiola won his first six matches after taking charge. Joe Mercer was unbeaten in his first seven matches in 1965, with three wins and four draws. Les McDowall was unbeaten in his first 10 matches in 1950, recording seven wins and three draws.

Despite setting a historic milestone, Maresca stated that what pleased him most was not solely the victories, but also the progress of his players. "First and foremost, i am very happy, because winning is the most important thing in this profession", the 46-year-old manager said in the post-match press conference. "We have won seven consecutive matches. But what makes me even happier is working with the players every day, witnessing how they train and improve".

At the Etihad Stadium on 17/10, Man City opened the scoring through Phil Foden. The home team then dominated, regaining the lead and extending the advantage to 3-1 with an Erling Haaland brace. Towards the end, the visitors mounted a comeback, scoring one goal from a penalty kick, resulting in the 3-2 final score. Maresca expressed satisfaction with Manchester City's performance, noting the team's strong control of the game, numerous chances created, and effective defense. He was most encouraged by his players' daily progress. The Italian coach affirmed that the coaching staff always recognized and valued the players, advising them to focus on their work rather than external comments.
The victory over Ipswich also raised concerns for Manchester City regarding the fitness of several key players, including Erling Haaland, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Nico O'Reilly, and Antoine Semenyo. Maresca somewhat reassured fans by revealing that Haaland, Nunes, and Kovacic were not facing serious issues. However, O'Reilly continued to experience back pain, similar to a problem that arose during the warm-up before the Coventry match. "The only one we need to wait on is Antoine Semenyo. We will continue to monitor his condition", Maresca stated.
On 20/10, Manchester City will continue their home fixtures at the Etihad, facing Greek club AEK Athens on matchday three of the Champions League group stage.
