In the 89th minute, Dowman received the ball on the right wing and unexpectedly whipped a curling cross towards the far post, causing chaos in Everton's penalty area. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford misjudged his punch, and the ball deflected off Piero Hincapie, creating an opportunity for Viktor Gyokeres to tap into an open net, giving Arsenal the opening goal.

As the second half entered injury time, Everton pushed their entire team forward. Goalkeeper Pickford also left his goal to join a corner kick. This was Dowman's chance to shine.
