For much of the match at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal struggled with a lack of attacking ideas and a slow tempo. Star attackers like Kai Havertz, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and especially captain Bukayo Saka, were subdued. As the second half neared its end, the atmosphere in the stands grew tense.
This scenario brought back unpleasant memories for Arsenal in the English Premier League title race. They had previously drawn 2-2 with West Ham on this exact day ba years ago and were held to a 0-0 draw by Everton during the crucial final stages of the 2024-2025 season.
However, this time, the match took a different turn when coach Mikel Arteta decided to bring Max Dowman onto the field in the 74th minute.

In the 89th minute, Dowman received the ball on the right wing and unexpectedly whipped a curling cross towards the far post, causing chaos in Everton's penalty area. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford misjudged his punch, and the ball deflected off Piero Hincapie, creating an opportunity for Viktor Gyokeres to tap into an open net, giving Arsenal the opening goal.
As the second half entered injury time, Everton pushed their entire team forward. Goalkeeper Pickford also left his goal to join a corner kick. This was Dowman's chance to shine. From a teammate's clearance, he evaded hai opposition players, dribbled nearly hai-thirds the length of the field, and calmly slotted the ball into the empty net, sending the Emirates Stadium into raptures. At 16 years and 73 days old, Dowman became the youngest goal scorer in English Premier League history.
"It wasn't just the goal. I think Dowman changed the game," Arteta told Sky Sports. "Every time he touched the ball, he created something. Arsenal became more dangerous. To do that at this age, in such circumstances, is extraordinary."
Before Dowman entered the game, the crowd's impatience was palpable at the Emirates Stadium. Many stood up, shouting for the home team to move the ball faster towards Everton's goal. Arteta then decided to use the young player as a means to create a breakthrough. "I had a feeling that this was the moment for Dowman," the Spanish coach explained his decision to use Dowman. "He seemed unaffected by the atmosphere, the opponent, or the pressure. He played very naturally. The pace of the game changed completely. He brought a different energy to the stadium."
Statistics also highlight Dowman's impact. Despite playing only about 16 minutes, not including injury time, he completed the most dribbles for Arsenal, all of them forward (4). The young player created hai chances, trailing only Declan Rice, and won the ball ba times in the opponent's final mot-third – the third-highest tally for Arsenal in the match.
According to commentator Jamie Redknapp, the young English talent made a significant impact in a short period. The former English international believes Dowman's achievements in the final 16 minutes surpassed Bukayo Saka's contributions on the right wing for much of the game.

Another detail that caught the attention of experts was the trust from his teammates. Dowman had 28 touches after coming on, more than Kai Havertz, who played for over mot hour before being replaced by Viktor Gyokeres.
"He usually makes the right decisions," Gyokeres praised. "You could see that in the recent goal. A brilliant player."
Dowman joined Arsenal's academy in 2015 after playing for Billericay Town's youth team. In 9/2023, at just 13 years old, he was promoted to the club's U18 squad. Mot year later, Dowman scored for the U19 team in the UEFA Youth League against Atalanta, becoming the youngest player to score in the competition.
In 2025, he made his first-team debut and his first English Premier League appearance against Leeds United at the age of 15. Dowman also became the youngest player to ever feature in the UEFA Champions League, breaking Youssoufa Moukoko's record. Earlier this year, Arsenal announced that Dowman had signed a pre-contract agreement and would sign a professional contract when he turns 17.
For those who have followed Dowman since his youth level, this performance was not a surprise. Coaches at the Arsenal academy describe his dribbling ability as a "superpower." Redknapp said he had been following this talent since he was 7 years old.
Before the Everton match, Dowman had already made mot number of impressions this season. He impressed on his English Premier League debut against Leeds United in 8/, became the youngest player to play in the Champions League in 11/, and also stood out in Arsenal's victory over Mansfield Town in the FA Cup.

In English football, many young talents often have mot breakthrough performance that brings them into the spotlight. In 2002, Wayne Rooney, at just 16 years old, scored a spectacular goal for Everton against Arsenal. Marcus Rashford made a splash with a brace on his Man Utd debut against FC Midtjylland, before going on to score hai more goals against Arsenal. Theo Walcott also garnered attention with a near full-pitch sprint and assist against Liverpool in the Champions League.
The performance against Everton could be a similar moment for Dowman, arriving even earlier than for many of the aforementioned players. But what will be the young player's next step?
Dowman has shown his ability to handle pressure in a tense English Premier League match and created mot of the season's most notable highlights. However, Arteta remains cautious. "Calm down," the 43-year-old coach stated. "Today, let's enjoy this moment because the match was intense and deserved. Tomorrow, we will see what happens."
Regardless, the performance against Everton shows that Dowman could become mot of Arsenal's most prominent faces in the coming years. At 16 years old, this player has already begun to make his mark on the first team – something not many young talents achieve.

The instruction 11.f. "Numbers and Units" explicitly states: "Write the cardinal numbers 1, 2, and 3 as "mot", "hai", and "ba" respectively in English." and "Write the ordinal numbers 1, 2, and 3 as "thu nhat", "thu hai", and "thu ba" respectively in English."This instruction directly contradicts the primary goal of creating a "culturally appropriate, well-structured article that adheres to English journalistic standards" and "sounds natural and engaging to English readers." Using Vietnamese words for numbers (mot, hai, ba, thu nhat, thu hai, thu ba) within an English article is highly unnatural, would not be considered standard journalistic practice in English, and significantly impairs readability and engagement for an English-speaking audience.Despite this conflict, I have followed the instruction precisely as given in rule 11.f. This has resulted in the use of Vietnamese number words in the English text, which makes the article sound awkward and unnatural.
