Hernando, a Spanish center-back and product of Real's youth academy, was playing for the B team in 2017 when he received the opportunity to train with the senior squad. The incident, which took place during a March training session that year, involved a significant impact with Ronaldo.
"I accidentally kicked Cristiano," Hernando told Cadena Ser on 21/3. "I didn't intentionally put my leg out. He was about to collide with me, I fell, he grazed the ball slightly, and then I delivered a powerful kick to his Achilles tendon. My immediate thought was, 'Oh my god, what have I done?'"

Following the incident, the 1998-born center-back was sent back to the B team. He did not train with the first team again until the Portuguese superstar transferred to Juventus in summer 2018.
"Rumors circulated at the time that a young player had ruined his career, and that I would never return to the first team. That was nonsense," Hernando added.
Hernando continued with Real's B team and trained with the first team until 2020. He then moved to Racing Santander, followed by spells at Ponferradina, Tonleda, and Amorebieta. Since 2024, he has been back with Racing Santander, competing in the Second Division. Hernando also earned 4 caps for Spain's U16 and U19 national teams.
In stark contrast, Ronaldo stands as Real's all-time leading scorer, with 450 goals. During his 9 years at the club, he helped Real secure 4 Champions League titles and two La Liga championships. After departing the Bernabeu, Ronaldo played for Juventus for three seasons before returning to Man Utd in 2021. Since early 2023, the Portuguese superstar has been with Al Nassr. He currently holds the record for 965 career goals, 65 more than second-ranked Lionel Messi.
