Real Madrid is actively working to secure Vinicius Jr. with a new contract, as reported by ESPN. The club is scheduled to meet with Vinicius’s representatives this week to resume stalled contract extension talks. Real has reportedly improved its offer to approximately 25 million USD per year following months of deadlock in negotiations. However, this amount is still considerably lower than the roughly 34 million USD per year that Vinicius's camp is seeking.

Currently earning around 20 million USD per season, Vinicius is entering the final year of his contract with Real. If a renewal agreement is not reached, the 26-year-old forward could leave the Bernabeu on a free transfer after the upcoming season. He would then be eligible to negotiate and sign with other clubs starting in 1/2027. Both Vinicius and his agent consider this to be the most crucial contract of his career. They believe Real should adequately acknowledge his contributions since he joined the team in 2018, which include scoring in two Champions League finals (a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in 2022 and a 2-0 win against Dortmund in 2024).

According to ESPN, Real is prepared to consider parting ways with Vinicius during the summer transfer window if both sides fail to agree on a new contract. In such a scenario, the royal club expects to receive a transfer fee of approximately 171 million USD, despite Vinicius having only one year remaining on his deal. Arsenal is monitoring the Brazilian international's situation. However, the London club has not made any official moves, as Real's priority remains retaining the forward, born in 2000.

Vinicius returned to team training earlier this week following his post-World Cup 2026 holiday. He completed his pre-season medical examinations and participated in his first training session under new coach Jose Mourinho on 3/8.

During the summer 2026 transfer window, Real Madrid has already brought in five new signings: Carlos Espi, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, and Marc Cucurella. The club also reached an agreement to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig for 150 million USD, but this deal is currently stalled due to a legal dispute between the Ivorian player's agencies.
