On 4/8, a lightning strike hit a football field in Suai Ko-lok district, Narathiwat province, during a Golok FA Cup match, leaving many players incapacitated on the pitch. Ten players were immediately rushed to the hospital. Forward Safwan Awae sustained the most severe injuries and did not survive.

By 18h41, the Yala FC fanpage posted a message extending deep condolences to Safwan’s family. The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) also officially confirmed the incident. "The player died due to a lightning strike during a local football match. The federation shares the pain with the family, relatives, and the club during this time," a statement read.
