Thailand cruises past Timor Leste in 2025 AFF U23 Championship

Thailand defeated Timor Leste 4-0 in their opening Group C match of the 2025 AFF U23 Championship, boosting their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

* Goals: Yotsakorn 14’, Phochai 40’, Ratree 50’, Sealao 74’

Thailand dominated Timor Leste in a 4-0 victory at Patriot Stadium on 19/7, securing three crucial points in Group C of the 2025 AFF U23 Championship. Timor Leste, who had surprisingly drawn 4-4 with Myanmar in their first match on 16/7, were no match for the superior Thai side and are now effectively eliminated from the tournament.

Thailand threatened from the outset. In the very first minute, Seksan Ratree stole the ball and set up Yotsakorn Burapha inside the penalty area. Despite having ample time and space, Burapha’s low shot was saved by the Timor Leste goalkeeper.

The relentless pressure finally paid off in the 14th minute. Songkramsamut's corner kick found Yotsakorn, who leaped high to head the ball into the net. A similar scenario unfolded in the 40th minute, with Pattarapon Sukasit's header hitting the crossbar. Timor Leste's failure to clear the ball allowed Thanawut Phochai to volley home with his right foot, doubling Thailand's lead.

Timor Leste offered little resistance. Five minutes into the second half, Thailand scored their third goal on the counter-attack. Ratree intercepted the ball in midfield and passed to Yotsakorn, who then found substitute Teerapat Pruetong. Pruetong slipped a through-ball to Ratree, who beat the offside trap and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Filonito Nogueira.

The final goal, in the 74th minute, also came from a swift counter-attack. Yotsakorn's clever pass found Chawanwit Sealao on the left wing. Sealao outpaced a defender, entered the penalty area, and chipped the ball over Nogueira to complete the scoring.

With this victory, Thailand now leads Group C with three points, two points ahead of both Myanmar and Timor Leste. A draw or win against Myanmar in their final group match on 22/7 will guarantee them the top spot.

Starting lineups:

Timor Leste: Filonito Nogueira, Liam Farrugia, Aidan Pereira, Anizo Correia, Olagar Xavier, Vabio Canavaro, Palomito Ribeiro, Freteliano, Alexandro Bakhito, Zenivio Mota, Luis Figo

Thailand: Sorawat Phosaman, Seksan Ratree, Saphon Noiwong, Pattarapon Suksakit, Chanapach Buaphan, Songkhramsamut Namphueng, Phon-ek Maneekorn, Sittha Boonlha, Yotsakorn Burapha, Thanawut Phochai, Phathamit Praphanth.
