Thuy Linh lost 0-2 to Nozomi Okuhara in the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters badminton tournament on the evening of 20/3.
From the outset, Okuhara's fast-paced, persistent playing style immediately challenged Thuy Linh. The Japanese player quickly established a 6-point lead, going up 11-5 in the first set.
Competing alone in Europe, Thuy Linh managed her game without coaching guidance. She adapted her strategy by using net shots to draw Okuhara forward, then delivering powerful smashes. This tactic helped the Vietnamese player narrow the gap to 10-11 and later 14-15.
However, Okuhara then showcased her class with a series of difficult drop shots. Thuy Linh, in contrast, hit several shots out of bounds or failed to clear the net, ultimately losing the set 18-21.
In the second set, Okuhara's physically demanding play continued to trouble the player from Phu Tho. Despite her constant agile movement, Thuy Linh could not defend against her opponent's varied shots. Okuhara easily won the set 21-8, concluding the match in just 33 minutes.
The Orleans Masters is a Super 300 level event, part of the Badminton World Federation's World Tour. The tournament took place from 17-22/3 in Orleans, France, featuring 400 players from 40 countries and offering a total prize fund of USD 240,000.
Thuy Linh is Vietnam's top female player, with a notable track record. She has won the national individual badminton championship 7 consecutive times and secured three consecutive Vietnam Open titles starting in 2022. She also participated in the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics. In the Super 300 series, she finished runner-up 4 times, including at the German Open in 2024 and 2025, the Canada Open in 2025, and the Korea Masters in 2025.
Following her European tour, Thuy Linh's next competition will be the 2026 Asian Championship. This event is scheduled for April in China.
