VnExpress Marathon: a bridge for runners to explore Can Tho's identity

The VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026 is expected to become a cultural bridge, allowing 10,000 runners to discover Tay Do through the race on the early morning of 10/5.

The opening ceremony for the VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026 took place at noon on 8/5 at the expo area in Hau River Park, Cai Khe ward. This event marked the beginning of a series of activities leading up to the race day on the early morning of 10/5.

During the ceremony, Le Van Anh, Deputy Head of the organizing committee, stated that this year's event continues to attract participants, with over 10,000 registrations, an increase of 1,000 athletes compared to the first season. According to Van Anh, this figure indicates a growing interest among participants in professional races that combine competition with tourism and local experiences.

"The VnExpress Marathon is not just a race; it creates a bridge for runners and their families to explore Can Tho through its landscapes, culture, cuisine, and the hospitality of its local people. The continued strong support for the event shows that athletes are increasingly interested in races that combine competition with tourism experiences and discovering regional identity," Van Anh said.

This season features several adjustments to enhance the athlete experience, notably the relocation of the finish line to Hau River Park. Instead of finishing near the city stadium as in the previous season, runners will now complete the race in a riverside setting, adjacent to the main stage, expo, and post-finish area.

According to Van Anh, this change ensures that athletes conclude their race in a more vibrant atmosphere. It also allows runners, their families, and local residents to participate in various side activities after the race.

"We hope that regardless of whether athletes run shorter distances like 5km, 10km, or take on the more challenging 21km and 42km distances, they will all have the opportunity to explore race routes that embody the distinctive character of the Mekong Delta region," Van Anh said.

This year, VnExpress Marathon Can Tho continues its partnership with Herbalife as the nutrition partner. Nguyen Thanh Dat, Communications Director for Herbalife Vietnam, stated that their continued association with the Can Tho race aligns with the brand's long-term goal of promoting an active lifestyle, encouraging physical training, and maintaining balanced nutrition within the community.

"Can Tho is a destination rich in the identity of the Mekong Delta, with its distinctive riverine culture, hospitable people, and diverse cuisine. Partnering with the VnExpress Marathon in this city not only helps Herbalife reach the running community in the Southwest region but also contributes to fostering a healthy lifestyle through a large-scale sporting event," Dat said.

On 8-9/5, Herbalife collaborated with the organizing committee to set up a game zone, featuring a series of challenges inspired by Mekong Delta culture. This provided an additional experiential space for runners and their families during item collection.

The VnExpress Marathon Can Tho 2026 commences at 3h on 10/5. Over 10,000 athletes will conquer a route that passes through many central streets, riverside areas, and cultural-urban landmarks of Tay Do, such as Cai Rang Floating Market, Hung King Temple, and Can Tho Museum.

Through the race, runners not only challenge their limits but also experience the rhythm of life, the scenery, and the identity of Can Tho on a lively weekend morning along the Hau River.
