Vietnam defeats Iran at Asian Women's Volleyball Championship

The Vietnamese women's team asserted their strength as defending champions with an easy 3-0 victory over Iran in their fourth Group B match at the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship - AVC Nations Cup 2026 on the morning of 11/6.

After a hard-fought 3-2 comeback victory against Indonesia, Vietnam had two rest days before facing Iran. Against an opponent ranked 13 places lower (28th versus 41st), the Vietnamese team dominated play. Captain Thanh Thuy was moved to the opposite hitter position, while Dinh Thi Thuy and Vi Thi Nhu Quynh formed the outside hitter duo.

Vietnam made some first-pass errors but compensated with effective blocking. After winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20, Vietnam faced a challenge in the third set, falling behind. However, quick adjustments by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet allowed the players to regain control and secure a 27-25 comeback win.

This one hour and seven minute victory solidified Vietnam's position at the top of Group B with 11 points. Captain Thanh Thuy delivered an outstanding performance, contributing 21 points, including 19 attack points and two blocks, achieving a 51% efficiency.

The AVC Nations Cup, organized by the Asian Volleyball Confederation, serves as a tier-two competition for mid-ranked national teams. Stronger nations like China, Japan, and Thailand participate in the Nations League, which features top world teams. Vietnam has won the AVC Cup three consecutive times in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

This year's tournament is held in Ilocos Sur province, Philippines, from 6-14/6, featuring 12 national teams. Group A includes hosts Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Australia. Group B comprises Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Lebanon. Teams play a single round-robin, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals to contend for the championship. The remaining teams compete for lower rankings.

Tomorrow, 12/6, Vietnam will play Kazakhstan at 8 AM.
