Following a 0-2 defeat to Australia, Vietnam faced a critical situation, needing points against the Philippines to revive their hopes of advancing. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang therefore deployed a strong starting lineup, featuring Thuy Linh, Thu Xuan, Nguyet Vi, Thuy Trang, and Bien Thi Hang.
After kickoff, the Vietnamese women took control, executing quick plays in tight spaces. In the 5th minute, Thanh Ngan skillfully broke through the opposing defense, bypassed the Philippines goalkeeper, and fired a powerful shot to open the scoring.

Vietnam subsequently created more chances but failed to convert them. In the 16th minute, after an opponent handled the ball in the penalty area, Vietnam was awarded a penalty kick. However, Thanh Ngan's attempt was saved by goalkeeper Hughes, squandering an opportunity to double the lead from the 6-meter mark.
In the second half, the Vietnamese women continued to dominate the game, creating numerous scoring opportunities. It was not until the 37th minute that Bien Thi Hang, following a quick sideline play, struck a diagonal shot into the Philippines' net, securing the 2-0 victory.
With these three points, Vietnam has significantly improved their chances of advancing to the semifinals, provided they defeat Myanmar in their final group match.
