In a group featuring dominant hosts Thailand, Vietnam identified Myanmar as their main rival for the remaining semifinal spot. Coach Diego Giustozzi's players demonstrated their determination from the start with relentless attacks. In the 12th minute, defender Nhan Gia Hung opened the scoring with a shot into the far corner, assisted by winger Tran Thai Huy.
In quick succession during the opening minutes of the second half, pivot Nguyen Da Hai scored two goals, extending the lead to 3-0. In the 28th minute, Nguyen Thac Hieu, only 17 years old, scored a spectacular goal to seal the 4-0 victory. This marked Hieu's first goal for the Vietnam national team.

The ASEAN Futsal Championship 2026 is taking place in Nonthaburi province, Thailand, from 6/4 to 12/4. Eight teams are participating, with Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Timor Leste in Group A. Group B comprises defending champion Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei.
This is the 17th edition of the tournament. Thailand has won the championship 16 times, while Indonesia claimed the title one time in 2024. Vietnam has participated in all tournaments, reaching the final two times in 2009 and 2012, losing to Thailand on both occasions. The team also finished third in the years 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2019, 2022, and 2024.
Tomorrow, 7/4, Vietnam will face Timor-Leste at 5:30 PM.
