Da Lat's cherry blossoms burst into color to welcome spring

Cherry blossoms at Cau Dat tea hill are in full bloom, at their most beautiful from early january, creating a natural highlight to welcome spring on the Da Lat plateau.

The Da Lat suburbs entered the cherry blossom season in late December 2025. Cau Dat tea hill, located 20 km from Da Lat city center, was among the first areas to report blooming flowers. Local residents noted that this year's bloom at the tea hill arrived 10-15 days earlier than the previous year. The early bloom resulted from a cold spell in late 2025, which stimulated the trees to shed leaves and form buds ahead of schedule.

The arrival of cherry blossoms marks a beautiful natural event, attracting visitors eager to experience the scenic transformation. Cau Dat tea hill, known for its vast landscapes, becomes a prime destination during this period.

Cao Ky Nhan, a photographer from TP HCM, visited the tea hill during the last two days of 2025, capturing the early season's vibrant floral display. Nhan had previously visited four years ago, and this return surprised him with many trees exceeding 7 meters in height, boasting wide canopies and dense blooms. He noted this created "a more vibrant and poetic landscape".

According to Nhan, cherry blossoms also bloomed at other locations, including Mong Dao Nguyen, various cafes, and along central routes. However, he emphasized the distinct appeal of Cau Dat.

"The flowers at Cau Dat are the most appealing to visitors because they create a distinct, expansive scenery", Nhan stated.

The tea hill spans approximately 200 hectares at an altitude of over 1,600 meters above sea level. Gentle slopes are covered with oolong tea, interspersed with small paths and wind turbines. Cherry blossom clusters were planted sporadically beginning 30 years ago.

This year, Da Lat's cherry blossoms bloomed under favorable weather conditions. Days were mildly sunny, with temperatures around 21-23 degrees Celsius, while mornings and evenings were cool, at 13-14 degrees Celsius. Nhan advised visitors to photograph Cau Dat tea hill around 7 am or in the late afternoon, when the sunlight is gentle, the fog gradually dissipates, and soft, slanting sunbeams enhance the color of the blossoms and add depth to the scenery.

Cau Dat tea hill is open to visitors for free sightseeing, flower viewing, and photography. Guests can rent motorcycles or cars from central Da Lat, following National Highway 20 through Xuan Truong to Cau Dat, a journey of approximately 45-60 minutes depending on the vehicle.

Beyond admiring the cherry blossoms, visitors can arrive early in the morning for cloud hunting, strolls, and tours of the ancient tea factory to learn about the tea production process at Cau Dat.

The cherry blossoms planted at Cau Dat tea hill are woody species, growing 5-7 meters tall with canopies spanning 3-5 meters. Their trunks are large and tall, resembling peach trees found in the northern mountains, yet their five-petal flowers and stamens closely resemble apricot blossoms in the south. The cherry blossom cycle typically lasts about 6-8 weeks, from the appearance of the first sparse blooms until all petals have fallen.
