Ring in the new year at Victoria Harbour
Victoria Harbour offers an iconic setting for New Year's Day celebrations in Hong Kong. The two shores of the harbor, flanked by towering skyscrapers, form the city's distinctive skyline. On the night of 31/12, the Hong Kong New Year Countdown draws locals and tourists to the area, all eager to witness the transition into the new year.

The area around the harbor becomes lively as locals and visitors gather, facing the water and awaiting the transition. Lights, music, conversations, and cheers create a vibrant atmosphere on New Year's Eve.
View Hong Kong from above
For a breathtaking perspective of Hong Kong, Victoria Peak, known as The Peak, provides a panoramic vista. During the bustling start of the new year, the open space at the summit offers a tranquil escape, allowing visitors to admire the city from afar and appreciate the blend of green mountains with modern urbanity.

Additionally, visitors can stroll along the Peak Circle Walk or visit Lugard Road Lookout, paths that offer expansive views towards the harbor and the skyline. The journey up to The Peak is also an exciting part of the experience, thanks to the Peak Tram, a funicular railway dating back to 1888. The train slowly ascends the slope, with scenes unfolding through the windows. It's a short journey, yet enough to add an unforgettable experience to your New Year's Day holiday.
Explore the streets by Ding Ding tram
If The Peak allows visitors to view Hong Kong from above, the Ding Ding tram brings them closer to the rhythm of street life. Sitting on the second floor of the tram, visitors can hear the distinctive 'ding-ding' bell, observe shops, signs, and the flow of people through the windows.

During the year-end festive season, shops, shopping areas, and familiar streets become more bustling. Visitors can choose a route through the Western District, from Sheung Wan towards Kennedy Town, to explore this area.
Through the tram windows, old buildings interspersed with shops, cafes, and bustling streets create an intimate, everyday glimpse of Hong Kong.
Festive activities and shopping opportunities
At the end of the year, Hong Kong takes on a different appearance. Downtown areas are decorated, shopping and entertainment venues become lively, and festive season activities occur continuously. Hong Kong WinterFest brings a vibrant Christmas atmosphere, highlighted by a Christmas tree approximately 20 meters tall and decor filled with fairy-tale colors.
