Guest sues hotel after discovering employee hiding under bed

A Thai family is suing a hotel in Shanghai after discovering a male employee snuck into their room, hid under a bed, and claimed he entered by mistake.

Thai tourist Yatida Siriwangchai and her family are pursuing legal action against a hotel in Shanghai, China, after they found a male employee hiding under a bed in their room. The incident, which Yatida documented in videos posted to social media in early March, has since gone viral, sparking widespread concern about hotel security.

The viral footage shows a young man attempting to conceal himself in a narrow space between her father's bed and the wall. Yatida repeatedly questioned the man about his identity and how he gained access to the room. A language barrier initially hindered communication, though some Thai social media users familiar with Chinese suggested the man claimed he had entered the wrong room. Yatida maintained that she had locked the door before leaving and verified it was secure afterward, suspecting the employee might have used a spare key card.

The man's explanation of "entering the wrong room" was met with skepticism by many online commentators. Some speculated he intended to steal valuables but was caught off guard by the family's unexpected return, forcing him to hide and then fabricate an excuse when discovered. The incident resonated with other guests, with several coming forward to share similar experiences at the same hotel.

One Thai woman recounted an instance where an employee entered her room without permission. The manager later attributed it to a cleaning error and offered four bottles of water as compensation. Another guest reported being followed at the hotel, citing a lax security system that allowed unauthorized individuals to access the building and elevators. She claimed the suspected stalker fled when confronted and believed it could be the same employee seen in Yatida's video.

Yatida confirmed that hotel management later acknowledged the young man was indeed an employee of their establishment. Following the discovery, Yatida's family reported the incident to local police and has filed a lawsuit against the hotel. Yatida has not yet publicly disclosed the specific name of the hotel involved.
