Hanoi ranks among Asia's most attractive destinations for 2026

Hanoi has been ranked 8th among Asia's 20 most attractive destinations for 2026 by the US magazine U.S. News & World Report.

The ranking, updated in late 2025, was compiled based on criteria including local costs, accessibility, cuisine, diversity of attractions, and reader feedback. According to the US magazine, Hanoi is a suitable choice for first-time visitors to Vietnam, thanks to its blend of vibrant city life and peaceful lake areas.

U.S. News describes Vietnam's capital as offering a complete experience of history, culture, shopping, cuisine, and scenery. A journey of discovery can begin with one egg coffee, a stroll around the Old Quarter's colorful narrow streets, followed by sampling street food.

For sightseeing, visitors have many options, from museums, temples, and pagodas to the Old Quarter and traditional markets. Two historical destinations recommended are the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

This year's top 10 also features Mount Fuji, Tokyo (Japan); Palawan Archipelago (Philippines); Seoul (South Korea); Sri Lanka; Chiang Mai (Thailand); Bhutan; and Bali (Indonesia).

Leading the list are Mount Fuji and Tokyo. According to U.S. News, Mount Fuji can be visited year-round, suitable for a day trip from Tokyo but also worth exploring further. Tokyo is introduced as a "culinary mecca" with sushi, ramen, rooftop bars, and a top number of Michelin-starred restaurants globally.

Ranking third is the Palawan Archipelago, located between the Sulu Sea and the East Sea, known for its white sandy beaches ideal for swimming and diving. El Nido and Coron are two popular destinations for tourists in this region.

U.S. News & World Report, established in 1933, is a reputable US media organization renowned for its rankings and evaluations across various fields such as education, healthcare, economics, and tourism. U.S. News's "Best Places to Visit" lists are often considered reliable resources for international travelers when planning their trips.
