Inside the "Big Nude Boat": A naturist's cruise experience

Passengers aboard the Norwegian Pearl embrace nudity, but emphasize the cruise is not a venue for sexual activity.

A 10-year naturist recently embarked on Bare Necessities Tour and Travel's "Big Nude Boat 2025" cruise, paying USD 2,500 for the experience. She described the trip as "amazing," clarifying that it was a comfortable environment for nudity, not a platform for sexual activities.

The Texas-based Bare Necessities Tour and Travel has organized nude cruises for over 30 years, offering naturists a chance to vacation au naturel. The "Big Nude Boat 2025" hosted over 2,000 guests on an 11-day journey aboard the Norwegian Pearl. Departing from Miami, the ship visited destinations such as Great Stirrup Cay (a private island in the Bahamas), San Juan, St. Maarten, Dominica, Martinique, and St. Lucia. Ticket prices ranged from roughly USD 2,000 for an inside cabin to USD 33,000 for a 3-bedroom villa.

The passenger noted that most guests were between 50 and 70 years old, with a smaller number of younger participants. "Most people weren't particularly attractive, but there were some appealing people," she commented. Activities included swimming, sunbathing, dancing, and relaxing at the bar, all in the nude.

The woman explained her preference for nudity, comparing it to men going shirtless on a beach. The cruise allowed her to enjoy nude bathing on some of the world's most beautiful beaches. She also highlighted the cleanliness of the naturists on board, noting they always used towels before sitting directly on any surface.

While some restaurants required clothing, the outdoor buffet area permitted nudity. The woman described the nude dining experience as slightly unusual but added, "you only live once."

Another passenger, who remained anonymous, shared his experience on a similar Bare Necessities cruise in 2024. He emphasized a strict no-photography policy enforced by signage and staff. This rule enhanced his comfort level with being nude. He confirmed never seeing any photos from the cruise online, except for consensual group pictures.

Approximately 30 minutes after leaving port, the captain would announce that passengers could disrobe. Upon entering a port, clothing was required until further notice. While nudity wasn't mandatory, most passengers remained nude throughout the journey.

Bare Necessities clarifies that the cruise is not intended for "swingers" or to create a sexually charged environment. "Social nudity is not a sexual activity, and we strive to dispel the misconception that it is anything less than natural and beautiful," a company representative stated.

The cruise has a set of rules: clothing is required in the dining room, inappropriate use of towels or underwear is prohibited, and harassment, drug use, and excessive alcohol consumption are forbidden. Non-compliance results in removal from the ship without a refund. Passengers must be 21 or older. For solo travelers, Bare Necessities offers room-sharing arrangements to avoid high single supplements.
