On 7/3, Bali Police confirmed that body parts discovered at Ketewel beach belonged to Ihor Komarov, 28, a Ukrainian national. DNA analysis matched samples from his mother, bringing an end to the search for the missing tourist. This identification has now transformed the case into a cross-national murder inquiry.
The incident began in mid-February when Komarov was riding a motorcycle in Jimbaran, a popular Bali destination known for its beachfront seafood restaurants. A group of masked individuals, traveling in a black SUV, intercepted his vehicle, subdued him, and abducted him in plain sight of several bystanders.
Investigators suspect the kidnappers meticulously tracked Komarov's movements through the Instagram account of his girlfriend, Yeva Mishalova, a social media influencer. Her frequent public "check-ins" and travel stories from Bali allegedly provided the perpetrators with precise information on his location and schedule, enabling them to plan the attack.

Days after the abduction, Komarov's family received a ransom video. The demand was for 10 million USD, approximately 250 billion VND, to be paid in cryptocurrency. The video depicted Komarov severely injured, pleading for his family's help. However, all negotiations abruptly ceased in late February, shortly before his dismembered body was washed ashore.
International sources reveal that Ihor Komarov is the son of Sergey Komarov, known as "Komar." Ukrainian media has described Sergey Komarov as an influential "tycoon" linked to illicit business and criminal networks in the Donetsk and Dnipro regions.
Another Ukrainian billionaire's son, Oleksandr Petrovsky, was reportedly traveling with Komarov. Petrovsky managed to escape the abduction and subsequently reported the crime to authorities.
Bali investigators identified an isolated villa in Tabanan as the crime scene. Police recovered evidence suggesting Komarov was brutally tortured before his death.
The perpetrators have been identified as an organized group of at least 6 foreign nationals. Immigration records indicate that 4 suspects departed Indonesia immediately after disposing of the body. Interpol has since issued a Red Notice, initiating a global search for these individuals.
This horrific murder has severely damaged Bali's reputation as a safe tourist destination. In response, local authorities are increasing scrutiny of foreign tourist groups on long stays in isolated villas. They are also cautioning tourists against oversharing personal itineraries on social media, a practice believed to have facilitated the kidnappers' ability to track and attack Ihor Komarov.
Komarov's body is currently being held at Sanglah hospital to complete final legal procedures before being released to Ukrainian diplomatic representatives.
