Vietnamese travelers favor Da Lat most for Lunar New Year

Phu Quoc emerged as the most favored destination for Vietnamese travelers in the lead-up to Tet, while Da Lat was chosen for spring festivities during the Lunar New Year holiday itself.

The 9-day Lunar New Year 2026 holiday offers families an opportunity to plan their spring trips. On 22/1, Booking.com, a leading global online travel platform, released search data reflecting Vietnamese travelers' interest in destinations both before and during the holiday period.

In the period before Tet, Vietnamese travelers primarily searched for familiar domestic resorts. Phu Quoc topped the search list for travel from 31/1 to 13/2, rising three ranks compared to the same period last year. Other popular destinations included: Da Nang, Nha Trang, TP HCM, Da Lat, Ha Noi, Vung Tau, Mui Ne, Hoi An, and Hue.

For trips spanning the Tet holiday, from 14 to 22/2, Da Lat was the most searched destination for Vietnamese travelers, followed by Phu Quoc and Nha Trang. Phan Thiet and Sa Pa also recorded significant search growth, 5 times higher than last year, securing spots in the top 10 most searched destinations for the Tet holiday.

Following the Tet holiday, Vietnamese travelers often embark on cultural and spiritual journeys. Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and TP HCM led the list of most searched destinations for this period. Localities known for traditional festivals, such as Nha Trang, Da Lat, Ha Noi, and Vung Tau, also garnered considerable traveler interest.

Beyond the top 10, the former Tien Xuan commune, now part of Yen Xuan and Hoa Lac communes in Ha Noi (after merger), where the Tay Phuong Pagoda Festival is held, recorded impressive growth. It rose 412 ranks to 24th place, reflecting strong traveler interest in traditional festivals at the beginning of the year.

The extended holiday period contributed to Japan becoming the most attractive international market for Vietnamese travelers. After Tokyo, which ranked 2nd in search lists, cities like Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka also received significant interest from travelers during Tet. Destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok continued to see high search volumes.
