A study by UK insurance firm ChoiceQuote analyzed taxi fares in 50 popular tourist destinations worldwide. Paris emerged as the most expensive, with an average 8-kilometer ride costing 39.5 USD, including a 7.5% tip.
London followed closely behind at 38 USD, inclusive of a 10% tip. Milan secured the third spot, with an average fare of 35 USD, including a 7.5% tip. Osaka and Amsterdam rounded out the top five, both exceeding 32 USD for a similar distance.
On the other end of the spectrum, Delhi offered the cheapest fares at just 2.8 USD, including a 12.5% tip. Cairo came in second at 3 USD, while Denpasar ranked third at 3.3 USD with no mandatory tip. Agra and Shanghai secured the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The survey also revealed that tipping is customary in 86% of the destinations. The US leads with an average tip of 17.5%, followed by South Africa at 15%. India, Greece, and Mexico commonly tip at 12.5%; Egypt, Croatia, and the UK at 10%; and Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and France at 7.5%.
Beyond cost, safety is another key concern for international travelers. A survey published in August by UK travel company Riviera Travel identified Dubrovnik as the safest city in Europe. This ranking was based on current crime levels and their increase over the past five years. Dubrovnik received a total safety score of 44.14, attributed to its low crime rate (8.76 points) and a low rate of increase (35.38 points). In addition to safety, this coastal city attracts visitors with its medieval architecture, distinctive old town, and reputation as the "Pearl of the Adriatic".
Tallinn ranked second with a score of 55.81, renowned for its old town and local cuisine. Warsaw took third place with a score of 60.19, despite a "medium" increase in crime, which currently remains "very low". Lower scores indicate higher safety levels.
Prague secured the fourth position with 60.88 points, attracting tourists with its Gothic churches and towers. Krakow ranked fifth with 64.31 points, boasting Europe's largest medieval market square and a UNESCO-listed old town.
