7,7 magnitude earthquake triggers tsunami warning off Indonesia

A powerful 7,7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Flores, prompting Indonesia to issue an early tsunami warning.

A powerful 7,7 magnitude earthquake struck early this morning off the northern coast of Flores island, Indonesia, prompting an early tsunami warning from Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake's epicenter was located at a shallow depth of 10 km, approximately 68 km from Ende town.

While BMKG and the USGS both reported the earthquake at 7,7 magnitude, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) recorded it as 7,6.

The relatively shallow depth of the epicenter raises concerns, as it could lead to strong shaking in nearby areas.

Indonesian authorities are currently assessing the earthquake's impact, but there are no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
