Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, and xAI owner Elon Musk are among "the entrepreneurs who have steered the course of history, developed technology, and made decisions that reshape our information, climate, and livelihoods," Time magazine stated in an announcement today, naming "AI Architects" as its 2025 Person of the Year.
"They have reoriented government policy, altered geopolitical confrontations, and brought robots into homes. AI is emerging as the most influential tool in the competition among global powers since the advent of nuclear weapons," the US magazine reported.
One of the two covers draws inspiration from the famous 1932 photograph "Lunch atop a Skyscraper," which depicts workers eating lunch on a steel beam high above New York City.
In Time's version, the workers are replaced by Huang, Altman, Musk, Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, AMD CEO Lisa Su, and other prominent technology leaders.

Time noted that 2025 marks AI's transformation from a technology with potential into practical applications, with ChatGPT users more than doubling and accounting for approximately 10% of the global population.
"This is the most impactful technology of our era," CEO Jensen Huang told Time, predicting that AI will help the global economy grow from USD 100 trillion to USD 500 trillion.
The US magazine also highlighted AI's darker aspects. This year, lawsuits alleged chatbots contributed to adolescent suicides and mental health crises. Companies are also racing to replace humans with AI, putting many workers at risk of job loss.
Time began selecting its Man of the Year in 1927. This tradition later evolved to consider the impact of groups, movements, or ideas, not just individuals, that had the greatest influence on the world each year. The title was changed to Person of the Year in 1999.
US President Donald Trump was named Person of the Year for 2024, his second time receiving the honor. In the two preceding years, the title was awarded to singer Taylor Swift and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, respectively.
