Australian prime minister marries

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese married his girlfriend Jodie Haydon, becoming Australia's first leader to wed while in office.

"Married", Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on social media today, accompanied by a video showing him in a suit, holding the smiling bride's hand.

The private ceremony took place at The Lodge, Albanese's official residence in Canberra. The Prime Minister and his wife will enjoy a five-day honeymoon in Australia, beginning 1/12.

"We are delighted to share our love and commitment to a future together, witnessed by our family and closest friends", the couple stated in a joint announcement.

Prime Minister Albanese proposed to his girlfriend on Valentine's Day 2024. He stated then that he had found "the one I want to spend my life with".

Prime Minister Albanese was previously married and has a son named Nathan; the couple divorced in 2019. He met Haydon, a financial services employee, at a dinner party in Melbourne over five years ago.

Anthony Albanese was re-elected as Australia's Prime Minister for a second term in May, after the Labor Party secured victory over the conservatives in the general election.
