Brunei sultan to visit Vietnam

Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will visit Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

The state visit by Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will take place from 30/11 to 2/12, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam and Brunei established diplomatic relations on 29/2/1992, and upgraded them to a comprehensive partnership in 3/2019.

In October, during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) high-level week in South Korea, President Luong Cuong met Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The Brunei leader expressed a desire to further develop substantive cooperation with Vietnam, including in economic trade, energy, oil and gas, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

In the first 5 months of this year, bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 225,5 million, comparable to the same period in 2024. Vietnam's primary imports from Brunei include crude oil and chemicals. Brunei currently ranks 28th among foreign investors in Vietnam, with 153 active projects.

Cooperation in defense, security, oil and gas, Halal products, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges continues to strengthen. The two countries coordinate closely at regional and international forums, particularly the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
