The Da Nang City People's Committee and related agencies organized the handover ceremony for the nameplate and guard tower of the former Camp Reasoner on 15/9, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, and Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the ceremony. They were joined by representatives from the 5th Military Region Command, the Vietnam Veterans Association, and Da Nang agencies, as well as US officials and US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks.

The Camp Reasoner sign and guard tower are artifacts from the camp used by the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. These artifacts, preserved in the Da Son area of Hoa Khanh ward, Da Nang city, hold special significance for US veterans and their families who served there.

Vietnam handed over these artifacts following a US request, which included the wishes of some veterans. This act, rooted in goodwill and humanitarian spirit, aims to facilitate display and commemoration, honoring the values of peace, healing, and reconciliation between the two nations.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee stated that the handover exemplifies Vietnam's humanitarian traditions and its policy of setting aside the past. This initiative aims to foster cooperation in addressing war consequences, promote healing and reconciliation, and advance a future of peace, collaboration, and development between the two nations.

A representative from the Da Nang City Veterans Association emphasized the invaluable nature of peace, stating a desire for future generations to avoid the suffering of war. He affirmed that healing and reconciliation efforts serve as crucial bridges, fostering understanding and strengthening trust between the two nations.

Ambassador Jennifer Wicks thanked Vietnam's senior leaders, relevant agencies, and Da Nang city for facilitating the handover. She underscored the US's appreciation for Vietnam's goodwill and humanitarian cooperation. The handover, she noted, demonstrates respect for the painful memories of war and highlights the Vietnam-US relationship as a model for healing and reconciliation.

Ambassador Wicks stated that the US is committed to ongoing support for Vietnam in several areas: clearing unexploded ordnance, addressing dioxin contamination, assisting people with disabilities, and partnering in the 500-day-night campaign to search for, collect, and identify the remains of Vietnamese martyrs still missing from the war.
