Fighter jets fly over the White House on Trump's birthday

American F-16 and F/A-18E formations performed over the White House during the UFC Freedom 250 event and President Trump's birthday.

Six F-16 fighter jets from the US Air Force's Thunderbirds and six F/A-18E fighter aircraft from the US Navy's Blue Angels performed a rare "Super Delta" formation flyover at the White House on 14/6. A video released the same day captured the teams releasing white smoke as a singer performed the US national anthem. In this unique formation, the Blue Angels' F/A-18E aircraft formed a central triangle, while the Thunderbirds' F-16 fighter jets split into two groups, following closely behind.

The flyover was part of UFC Freedom 250, a special mixed martial arts event held on the White House's South Lawn. The event commemorated the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day and coincided with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday. President Donald Trump and Dana White, CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), initiated the event from a White House balcony.

The White House highlighted the significance of the event, stating, "An incredible flyover at UFC Freedom 250. God bless America." Photographer Perry Doggrell, who has extensively covered the Blue Angels, noted the extreme rarity of a Super Delta formation performance. "It's very rare for two of the world's best flight teams to come together and fly as one," he remarked in April.

The Thunderbirds, established in 1953, are the US Air Force's premier demonstration team. Part of the 57th Wing and based at Nellis Air Force Base, they are the world's third oldest flight demonstration team. The unit currently operates six F-16C fighter jets and two F-16D fighter aircraft.

Formed in 1946, the US Navy's Blue Angels operate six F/A-18E Super Hornets for their demonstrations. They also utilize a two-seat F/A-18F as a backup and for civilian passenger experience flights. Additionally, the Blue Angels maintain C-130 transport aircraft for logistical support, including equipment, spare parts, and personnel transport.

The combined Thunderbirds and Blue Angels flyover concluded a weekend of military activities associated with UFC Freedom 250. The Army's Golden Knights parachute team and the US Marine Corps drill team also performed in the days leading up to the main event.
