This will be General Secretary, President To Lam's first visit to India since Vietnam consolidated its state leadership positions at the first session of the 16th National Assembly.
Vietnam and India established diplomatic relations in 1972, upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016. Over the past decade, bilateral ties have made strong progress across various sectors.

According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, total bilateral trade between Vietnam and India reached a record 16,46 billion USD in 2025, an increase of 10,5% compared to 2024.
The two countries have agreed to increase two-way trade and investment to 30 billion USD by 2030. Both sides will expand cooperation in defense and security industries, promote science and technology, especially in core technologies, semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence, innovation, rare earth mining and processing, and information technology human resource development and training.
India has 378 projects with a total investment of over 1 billion USD in Vietnam. India's main investment sectors include: energy, mineral processing, agricultural product processing (coffee, tea, sugar), information technology, automotive components, pharmaceuticals, hotels, and infrastructure.
